Mobile Food Pantry Coming To Town

Houghton, L’Anse and Ontonagon have 12 additional mobile food pantries coming through the end of the year.

This in a press release from the Portage Health Foundation.

Kevin Store, executive director for the Portage Health Foundation said “This has been a challenging year for all of us. For some folks in the community, this has meant choosing between paying for food or paying for other necessities. We’ve seen a new group of people who have never had to navigate through things like unemployment or accessing some of the programs that are there to help people in financially challenging times.”

A partnership between the Portage Health Foundation, the Community Action Food Pantry, Ontonagon Area Schools and Feeding America West Michigan, fund the mobile food pantries.

Food boxes will be passed out in a drive through format, and will be on a first come, first served basis.

The mobile food pantry will be in Houghton on Thursday at the Community Action Service Center at 2pm.

They’ll be in L’Anse on September 17th at the Meadowbrook Arena at 2pm and in Ontonagon on September 24th at Ontonagon Area Schools on Parker Avenue.
