MLK Day Observances Planned

Both Finlandia University and Michigan Tech will be observing Martin Luther King Jr. Day today.

Finlandia will again hold its MLK Day of Service. Students and staff are encouraged to donate their time to help local individuals and organizations. Other scheduled opportunities include assisting with shoveling and food distribution, and working with St. Vincent de Paul, Dial Help, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, Canal View, the Copper Country Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home.

The film When We Were Kings will begin this evening at  6:30 in Wargelin 303.

Michigan Tech has scheduled activities through the week, including MLK Reading Day at Houghton, Barkell, and Dollar Bay Elementary Schools today. The 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Banquet will be held tonight at 5:30 at the Memorial Union Building. The keynote address will be presented by alumnus and motivational speaker Donzell Dixson.

Other activities this week include the Fearlessly Facing Fear Panel Discussion tomorrow at 6:00 at the Memorial Union Building Alumni Lounge. See the full schedule here.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an official state and federal holiday. There will be no mail delivery, and many government and financial offices will be closed.
