Troubles at the Mission Point Nursing Home in Hancock that we reported on Friday are not new.
Medicare evaluations for the facility reveal that Mission Point has been fined $85,140 for violations since June of 2020.
Medicare payments were suspended twice because of poor performance.
Issues included improper food preparation, poor facility maintenance, inadequate medical care, and lax hygiene procedures. At one time, the facility had no working laundry dryers, and staff members were obliged to take wet laundry to a nearby laundromat, sometimes using their own vehicles.
COVID-19 procedures were not followed, and treatment for residents who contracted COVID-19 was not always carried out per doctors’ orders. Inspectors noted that this contributed to a COVID-19 breakout among residents and staff in November of last year.
