Missing NMU Student Found Dead

A student from Northern Michigan University was found dead Sunday after he went missing on Thursday.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department said the body of 25-year-old Guiancarlo Estupigan was found by volunteers assisting the Marquette County Search and Rescue Team about 2,300 feet south of County Road 510 and the Yellow Dog River, about 300 feet from the roadway.

Estipugan was reported missing by his roommate on Friday after he left to go hiking Thursday afternoon.  The roommate said that Estupigan went hiking to take photographs of the falls.  When Estupigan did not return, the roommate went searching and found his Subaru Crosstrek in the Yellow Dog parking lot.

It is believed Estupigan got lost and became disoriented during a snowstorm that hit Thursday afternoon.

Estupigan was a sophomore at Northern Michigan University, majoring in Fish and Wildlife Management.
