Miss Michigan Visits, Promotes Nursing Changes

Miss Michigan visited the Copper Country yesterday. At the Baraga Drive-In, Paige Rubleski told our Thomas Fournier that she’s working to raise awareness about the challenges nurses and other health care workers are facing across the state…

Nursing is a great, wonderful field, but we burn our nurses out, and I really want our system to change and treat our healthcare workers better so that we can keep them in the system longer.

Rubleski has seen the effects first-hand…

I’m a registered nurse. I work in Grand Rapids. I worked COVID progressive care throughout the pandemic, and also work in psych.

While she hopes that raising public awareness can help ease the problem, Rubleski thinks the real solution will need to come from state government…

If you leave a business up to its own devices, it’s going to run how it wants to, and it’s based on the bottom line. And so, if we have reform and legislation to guide our practices, then things usually improve for patient care.

After all, she says, it’s a problem that touches all of us…

You’re going to need a hospital, you’re going to need a nurse someday, and so I want people to receive the best care wherever they are.
