Millage Increase For Veterans Affairs To Appear On August Ballot

The county board approved a proposal to put a millage renewal on the August ballot for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.

The current millage is 1.0 mill.  The renewal would include an increase of 0.15 mills to cover the cost of the increasing number of veterans coming to the office and for the building of a garage to house the disabled American veterans van that runs to Iron Mountain on almost a daily basis.

The millage would run for 10 years and the increase would be about $4.50 a year more for taxpayers for operating the Department.

The new millage would generate an estimated $126,000 in the first year.
