Michigan’s Treasury Department Offers Advice

The State’s Treasury Department is recommending residents who owe state taxes, to make their payments online directly to the Michigan Department of Treasury.

The state’s treasury department has advised against using third party payment services, as personal information can be compromised, and delays in refunds could occur as extra time is needed to identify the taxpayer and making sure the money goes on the right tax bill.

Glenn White, Deputy State Treasurer said “If you owe, please go to our website, and pay your outstanding tax bill. We don’t want taxpayers to become a victim of identity theft or face penalties and interest due to an unauthorized service routing a payment incorrectly.“

The fees on Michigan’s payment website, are comparable, to those of third party sites.

When using the State’s website, your personal information is secure, and will reach the right account.
