The Portage Lake District Library invites everyone to an evening of readings and discussions with true crime writer and award winning journalist Tom Carr on Tuesday, October 2, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Carr will discuss his recently released book MI Bad: Robbers, Cutthroats & Thieves in Michigan’s Past & Present. MI Bad shines a light on some of the most jaw-dropping capers and rogues of sensational crimes. Train robberies, stage-coach holdups, posses, break-outs and shoot-em-ups step out of the darker pages of Michigan’s past and spring to life in Carr’s book.
MI BAD is Carr’s follow-up to his Michigan historical true crime debut, Blood on the Mitten: Infamous Michigan Murders, 1700s-Present.
Carr, a Michigan native, has won journalistic awards for his investigative reporting, feature writing, breaking news, and humor columns. Carr often covered police, courts, and crime and reported closely on some memorable and well-known crimes. As a freelance writer, Carr has branched out into other media and has reported and produced many stories for Interlochen Public Radio and has had his work broadcast on National Public Radio (NPR) and Michigan Radio. His writing and reporting has appeared in the Detroit Free Press, the New York Daily News, Traverse Magazine, and other media.
There will be a book signing and selling after the presentation.
