Michigan Tech’s Guy Meadows To Testify Before Senate Subcommittee

Michigan Tech’s Guy Meadows will testify in Washington D.C. tomorrow before the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard.

Meadows is the director of the university’s Great Lakes Research Center.

The topic of the hearing is “Coast Guard Readiness: How Far Can We Stretch our Nation’s Only Multi-Mission Military Force?”

The subcommittee is examining the Coast Guard’s role in preparation and response to national disasters, as well as drug enforcement, ice-breaking, safety of navigation, oil spill response and non-maritime emergency response.

Others testifying include Admiral Paul Zukunft, commandant of the US Coast Guard, Lee Smithson of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and Etta Kuzakin of King Cove, Alaska.

The hearing at 10am will be live streamed at www.commerce.senate.gov.
