Michigan Tech’s Board Of Trustees Meets

Michigan Tech’s tuition will go up 3% for in state students, and approximately 3.8% for out of state students.

The news came from their monthly Board of Trustees meeting yesterday.

The Board also approved a balanced budget for the 2021 fiscal year.

There will be an $18 million deficit, due the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new budget includes decreases in nonpayroll spending, a 6-month pay reduction for staff earning more than $60,000 a year and the elimination of 87 filled and open positions.

Michigan Tech President Rick Koubeck said the loyalty of Tech’s dedicated employees made the actions they took especially difficult.

The Board also approved professor emeritus rank for Dieter Adolphs and Theodore Bornhorst.

Professor Ann Maclean was awarded the rank of professor emerita.

Several new degree programs were approved, and several degree titles were changed as well.

The Board also re-elected Brenda Ryan to another one year term as chair and Jeffrey Littman was elected to a one year term as vice chair.
