Michigan Tech is taking the fight to COVID-19. In recent weeks, Michigan Tech has developed a mobile utility sanitizer, capable of disinfecting up to 10,000 pieces of personal protective equipment every two hours.
The device was transported down state to Taylor, southwest of Detroit, by National Guard members from Calumet, for testing.
Other projects Michigan Tech is working on, include a partnership with Johns Hopkins University to improve purification steps to produce vaccines.
Ventilators and other medical hardware are also being worked on by various Michigan Tech departments.
Work on a certified laboratory for diagnostic human testing is also underway.
They will also begin testing COVID-19 samples in hospitals around the Copper Country.
In coming weeks, Michigan Tech will be releasing more stories on other projects such as developing a test to detect COVID-19 in human waste, so wastewater plants can adjust treatment processes and developing thermostable vaccines, which can be altered to fight a number of diseases, viruses and even cancer.
