Michigan Tech has been named a Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists.
This is a renewal of the Bicycle Friendly University designation earned by Tech in 2013.
With the announcement yesterday of 46 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Universities, Michigan Tech becomes one of 182 Bicycle Friendly Universities in 45 states and Washington, DC. The designation is good for four years, until 2021.
“Considering Michigan Tech is buried in snow for 75 percent of the academic year, which makes it hard for bike commuting and cycling infrastructure, this is a huge accomplishment,” said Bryant Weathers of the Campus Bike Initiative. “This is just another reason as to why Michigan Tech is such an incredible place for our staff, faculty, and students to learn, work and play.”
The Campus Bike Initiative promotes biking as a sustainable form of transportation and a way to preserve the environment and improve the quality of life in the community.
