In response to the extension of Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home Stay Safe” Executive Order, Michigan’s Senate held a special session Friday afternoon, and passed a bill to repeal the 1945 Emergency Powers of the Governor Act, which Whitmer has used as her basis to act unilaterally, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield announced earlier in the week that the legislature would reconvene, to review Whitmer’s actions.
Chatfield also added “The state’s response must be transparent, and we all have to work together to hold state government to a higher standard for its actions and choices.”
Governor Whitmer has no plans to give up her authority, saying this.
