Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services has announced a change in the way they report COVID-19 data.
Until now, Michigan and other states did not separate data for diagnostic and serology testing.
As the state expands diagnostic testing, to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the website will now differentiate between diagnostic, which determines if a person actively has COVID-19, versus Serology, which determines if someone has antibodies to COVID-19.
While serology tests can be helpful, they’re not an accurate portrayal of the total picture.
Kate Beer, of the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department.
Chief Health Officer Joneigh Khaldun said “We continue to expand and improve data reporting to make sure the public understands where their community stands with the COVID-19 outbreak.”
Information on COVID-19 is updated Monday through Friday on keweenawreport.com.
