The Portage Lake District Library will host Sandee Koski from the Michigan Alliance for Families for a workshop on Friday, April 28, from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
“Transition: Planning for High School and Beyond” is a workshop for families of students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and the team members who work with them. This workshop will provide participants with information, resources, and tools to start planning now for the future. They will learn how to help young adults plan for a successful transition to adulthood, including rights and responsibilities, and they will learn how high school classes and the school environment can help develop important skills and build pre-employment knowledge.
This workshop is specifically geared towards families of middle and high school aged students with a disability/learning challenges as well as for school staff, community members, and organizations.
The Michigan Alliance for Families provides information, support, and education to families of children and young adults with disabilities and special education needs, from birth to age 26. The Alliance also helps parents to become more active in their child’s school as a way of improving services and results for children and young adults with special education needs.
