Extended unemployment benefits for Michigan residents would continue under a bill passed by the state senate yesterday.
Most of the provisions would remain the same as those included in Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order, which was recently struck down by the Michigan Supreme Court.
One exception is that recipients would be required to prove they are actively looking for work.
The senate then attached five other bills to the unemployment legislation, including one that would give businesses immunity from liability if an employee contracts COVID-19.
If any of the five extra bills is not passed by the state house, and signed by the governor, the unemployment extension bill will be negated.
