Mental Health Speaker To Talk About New Treatment

The public is invited to hear a presentation about a powerful psychotherapeutic technique called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

Although EMDR was initially used with veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it has evolved to be used with other populations and problems, including stress, anxiety, anger, depression and poor self image.

EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (through tactile, audio or eye movements) which repeatedly activates the opposite sides of the brain, releasing emotional experiences that are “trapped” in the nervous system.

The topic will be presented by Crystal Stone from Copper Country Community Mental Health at the next meeting of the Mental Health Support Group, formerly organized as NAMI Keweenaw.

The meeting will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, September 12th at the Copper Country Mental Health Institute in Houghton.
