Meditation Circuit: Join Anne Beffel for an Open Studios Event Wednesday

HOUGHTON, MI, November 26, 2018 – Michigan Tech Professor and Public Artist Anne Beffel will hold an open studio event Wednesday, November 28, in the Studio for Here and Now in the basement of Wadsworth Hall, Wadsworth G04W, across from WMTU, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Beffel will discuss a public art and meditation walk in an urban forest installed by Anne Beffel and City Meditation Crew in Shoreline, WA, during a presentation at 6:45.

According to Beffel, “Meditation Circuit is a series of meditation stations along a pathway marked by public art work. Each station offers a mindfulness oriented activity intended to support well-being. Explore: listening; walking; even using cell phones as tools for meditating on colors in an urban forest. Meditation Circuits demonstrate the power of meditation and the value of public art.”

Meditation Circuit is inspired in part by the City Meditation Crew project, Many Colors of Green, in fall 2017 at Hamlin Park in which community members walked meditatively and contemplated their park using their cell phones as tools for attentiveness. Artist Anne Beffel is presenting Meditation Circuit with the performance art group City Meditation Crew (CMC), Shoreline Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services’ David Francis, the Shoreline Walks Program, and with support of Michigan Technological University and the King County 4Culture arts commission.
