State Representative Greg Markkanen has introduced a plan to restore funding for critical access hospitals that was axed from this year’s budget by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
The money supports 35 hospitals in rural areas where alternate care may be many miles away.
On Monday’s Morning Coffee program on KBear 102.3, Lt. Governor Garland Gilchrist defended the cut…
But Markkanen says the cuts will devastate critical access hospitals such as Baraga County Memorial and several Aspirus locations, and could mean the difference between life and death in an emergency.
The measure is part of a plan to restore two dozen programs vetoed by the governor, which is now under consideration by the House Appropriations Committee.
