Markkanen Meets With Residents In Calumet

Lansing is a long way from the Copper Country which is why it’s important for our representatives to make sure they are accessible to the local public.

State Representative Greg Markkanen held an office hour at Keweenaw Coffee Works on Friday to hear what local residents had on their mind.

“People up in the 110(th district) just want some assistance navigating the bureaucracy down in Lansing,” said Markkanen.  “I feel that’s a real priority for our office is that assist and do constituency services for people in the 110.”

Markkanen has had a lot of his own on his plate as well.  In addition to trying to lower auto insurance rates, the legislature continues to try and fund road repair while Governor Whitmer calls for a 45 cent hike in the gas tax.

“The governor put forth her proposal.  The senate is working on theirs, we’re working on ours.  We’re going to work together as caucuses and I think the momentum is still there.  Everybody just has there own focus,” Markkanen said.

Markkanen stressed that even if they weren’t able to meet up with him on Friday, local residents are always welcome to contact his office at (517) 373-0850 orGregMarkkanen@house.mi.gov.
