The massive $4.7 billion infrastructure bill that Michigan legislative leaders and Governor Gretchen Whitmer agreed to this week will bring some investment to the Copper Country.
Republican State Representative Greg Markkanen voted in favor of the bipartisan legislation yesterday. It includes a combination of federal COVID-19 relief money and surplus Michigan tax revenue.
Markkanen says the spending package will earmark $250 million for one of his priority projects – expanding rural broadband access. He also noted there will be cash for road and bridge repairs, recreational upgrades and clean water programs in the western U.P.
Both of the bills that make up the package received overwhelming approval in the House and Senate yesterday, and head to the governor, who has promised to sign them.
