Markham Family To Be Honored At Lions Hockey Game–plus Free Cowbells for Fan Appreciation Night

Fans coming to watch the Finlandia Lions men’s hockey team battle for a playoff spot Friday night at the Houghton County Arena have more reasons than just a great game to come out and cheer on the home team.

It’s Fan Appreciation Night and Coach Joe Burcar says there will be a special presentation prior to the game to honor the family of Thatcher Markham.  “It’s something important to us, it’s special to us, and I think it’s not just to recognize them but to keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they go along,” said Burcar. “I know it’s been a difficult time for them and it’s a small thing we can do but if there is any way that this can help them get through this difficult time, we sure want to be a part of it and help.”  12-year-old Thatcher was lost last summer following the storm that struck Father’s Day weekend.

Fans are invited to make some noise during the game and the first 300 fans will get a free cowbell.  Burcar said, “It’s something that we hope in two ways—that we run out but at the same time we hope can supply enough for people at the game tonight. So we want to make it a special, fun night for the fans with a good opponent and we’re really excited for this weekend.”

One lucky fan will also get to take a shot during the intermission for a chance to win free Coca-Cola products for a year.

The puck drops at 7:15pm as the Lions take on the Trine Thunder. We will broadcast tonight’s game with our pregame starting at 6:55pm on 99.3 The Lift and 993TheLift.com.

We will also carry Saturday’s matchup versus Adrian.  Coverage starts at 2:55pm.
