Man Dies in Gogebic County Snowmobile Crash

A Wisconsin man has died in a snowmobile crash in Gogebic County.

Michigan State Police troopers from the Wakefield Post and Gogebic County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call around 1:30 a.m. (CST) Sunday to Trail #2 in Wakefield Township.

The investigation revealed a group of snowmobilers were traveling westbound on Trail #2 near Ramsay when the crash occurred. A 53-year-old male driver from Berlin, Wisconsin was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 54-year-old male driver of a second snowmobile was transported to Aspirus Grandview Hospital by Beacon Ambulance. He was then air lifted to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau where he was treated for a broken leg and is reported to be in stable condition.

Names of the victims have not been released.

Alcohol is believed to be factor in this crash and the incident remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan DNR conservation officers, Beacon Ambulance, Michigan State Police Chaplin Corps and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
