Man Dies in Eastern U.P. Snowmobile Crash

A downstate man has died from injuries suffered in a snowmobile crash last week.

Mackinac County sheriff’s deputies say 77-year-old Norman James Bass of Goodrich – near Flint – missed a turn and struck a tree near Naubinway. He was taken to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry, where he died.

Deputies say neither speed nor alcohol seem to have been factors in the crash, but do note that Bass was operating a sled with which he was not familiar.
