Male Student Claims MTU Winter Carnival Queen Title – UPDATED

For the first time ever, Michigan Tech’s Winter Carnival will be ruled over by a male queen.

Zack Metiva won the 2020 competition, and was crowned at the ceremony at the Rozsa Center Saturday evening.

Metiva is a fourth-year Computer Network and System Administration major. He is President of IT Oxygen Enterprise, and is the social chair of the Michigan Tech pep band drumline. He was sponsored by the MTU Pep Band and Swift True Value Hardware.

First Runner Up honors went to Riley Simpson, a fourth-year mechanical engineering student from the Chicago area who was sponsored by Guardians of the North and the Cyberia Cafe.

The second Runner Up was Dana Anderson, a fourth-year undergraduate student from Holt, Michigan, studying biochemistry and molecular biology in the pre-health professions program. She was sponsored by Theta Chi Epsilon, Beta Sigma Theta, and Mike Lahti Properties.

The Audience Choice award went to Abby Bevilacqua, and the Congeniality Award went to Josie Fiore.
