Lumberjack Queen Crowned, but South Range Fireworks Delayed as Fourth Weekend Ends with Rain

Rain dampened the festivities, but didn’t dampen spirits at Independence Day celebrations across the region yesterday. Good turnouts were reported at parades, despite the wet weather.  Other activities were limited by the day-long soak.

The showers also created foggy conditions beginning in the late afternoon. The South Range fireworks were postponed, and have been rescheduled to Friday evening at dusk. The winning number in the South Range raffle was 1-6-5-1. The prize is $1,404.

Copper Harbor’s fireworks were postponed to tonight.

Independence Day observances scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday benefitted from excellent weather.

At Baraga County Lumberjack Days on Saturday, MaKayla Smith was crowned queen, and also voted “Miss Congeniality.” Meadow Paulson was first runner-up, and Kayleigh LaBerge the second runner-up.
