A longtime employee of Houghton is retiring after more than four decades working for the city.
Houghton City Manager Eric Waara thanked Facilities Superintendent Doug Larson for his 44 and a half years of service at the city council’s regular meeting Wednesday.
Larson began working for the city in October 1974 as a rink attendant and Zamboni driver at Dee Stadium.
He went on to work his way up through the Public Works Department and into a supervisory position.
Waara said he thinks Larson holds the record for the longest employment by the city of anyone they know of.
Larson’s last day is Thursday, April 18th.
