Lodge Proposed for Tech Trails

People who use the Tech Trails may soon be able to enjoy a lodge that provides showers and security lockers.

Officials from the Great Lakes Sports Commission last week announced a $150,000 grant to help the university promote use of the trails. Commission chair Doug Luciani says such a facility would elevate the Tech Trails to elite status…

“Like their hockey program Division I, this is what you’d expect from a Division I trail system.”

Michigan Tech Athletic Director Suzanne Sanregret says they’ll need to start by running utilities to the site…

“The first phase is infrastructure related to water and sewer. The second phase will include a lodge and facility.”

Luciani acknowledged that a lot more than $150,000 will be needed to complete the lodge…

“But it’s a good momentum builder, a start for the campaign to raise the rest of the funds.”

No timetable has been advanced for completion of the project.

The Great Lakes Sports Commission is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Michigan as a premier destination for recreation, sports, and tourism.

The Tech Trails grant is one of the first five it has awarded.
