A national parenting speaker will visit Houghton as part of a Conscious Discipline Parent Education Night.
The event is being hosted by BHK Child Development, the Copper Country Great Start Collaborative, and the Portage Health Foundation.
The presentation will be held Tuesday, August 20th from 6:00-8:00pm at the Houghton High School Auditorium.
The presentation will feature special guest, Velda McKenzie, a Certified Conscious Discipline Instructor. McKenzie is a 35+ year veteran of the classroom. She has been recognized as Columbia Missouri Teacher of the Year (1973), Walmart Teacher of the Year (2000), and Mexico, Missouri Teacher of the Year (2004), and has received the Pioneer in Education Award in 2015. As an experienced public speaker, McKenzie has provided in-service training and key notes addresses for large and small groups. Velda is passionate about providing parents and teachers with the skills to respond to life’s situations rather than react.
Conscious Discipline is described as a proven, comprehensive approach that empowers parents and caregivers with skills that create a safe, connected, problem-solving environment for their families.
All area parents, grandparents, and teachers are invited to this community event.
