Local Gas Prices Slide Slightly

Gasoline prices have dropped slightly over the past week.

AAA Michigan’s survey of place the average per-gallon price of regular unleaded at $2.59 in the Marquette metro area. That’s two cents lower than a week ago… nine cents lower than a month ago… 33 cents lower than a year ago… two cents below the statewide average… and five cents below the national average.

As usual, Keweenaw County was the highest in the state, at $2.95 per gallon. Houghton County remains above Marquette, at $2.66 per gallon. Baraga County’s average price is the lowest in the state, at $2.40 per gallon.

28 people died on Michigan roadways last week, according to the Michigan State Police. That brings the death toll to 765 this year – 40 fewer than last year at this time.
