Local Firefighters Compete & Raise Money For Flood Victims

The 65th annual Copper Country Firefighter’s Tournament provided both a respite for weary workers and help for the community.

Following a week’s worth of emergency response and cleanup from the Father’s Day Flood, the tournament was held in Chassell, showcasing fire departments from throughout the Copper Country.

The theme was “We fear no season, firefighting’s the reason.”

The event featured food, music, an auction, a dance and a parade, plus the departments competed against each other in numerous competitions.

Nearly $3,500 was raised for the Copper Country Flood Relief Fund from the dance and the Fill the Boot campaign, which will go to assist flood victims in the surrounding areas.

Over $1,300 raised from the 50/50 raffle was donated entirely to the Markham family, who lost their 12-year-old son during the storm.
