An organization looking to curb climate change is proposing a program that would pay people to help reduce carbon emissions.
The goal of the Citizens Climate Lobby is to create a bipartisan consensus for what they call a revenue-neutral carbon fee and dividend program.
Great Lakes Regional Coordinator Elizabeth Dell says this is a market-based solution by increasing the cost of fossil fuels to reduce their use.
The revenue created would then be equally dispersed among the population.
Dell says as the cost of fossil fuels begin to rise, so too will the demand for clean energy.
The Citizens Climate Lobby is currently forming a local chapter.
You can hear the entire interview with Elizabeth Dell, along with Michigan Tech’s Dr. Nancy Langston, professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Forestry, on this week’s episode of Copper Country Today.
