The COVID-19 infection rate has slowed in the Keweenaw.
The most recent report from the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department includes 44 more confirmed positives in the five-county area since the last report was released late Thursday.
21 of those confirmed cases were in Houghton County, which also reported one death. Baraga County logged four new confirmed cases. Keweenaw County had one new confirmed positive, Ontonagon County had seven, and Gogebic County had 11. There were eight additional probable cases reported across the region, along with 34 confirmed recoveries.
The 21 cases in Houghton County compares favorably with the 66 positives in the October 8th report, the 72 positives in the October 5th report, and the 76 positives in the October 1st report. Confirmed diagnoses in Baraga County have remained fairly steady.
The total number of confirmed and probable cases diagnosed in the five-county region since the pandemic began has now passed 1,100, with nine deaths. 803 of the diagnoses and five of the deaths occurred in Houghton County.

Totals have also been released from the community testing event held at Michigan Tech on October 3rd. Of 669 results received, 28 were positive.
