Local COVID Cases Continue to Climb

The Copper Country continues to be one of the state’s hottest COVID-19 centers.

The most recent report issued by the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department shows 91 new confirmed positives in the five-county region. 72 of those are in Houghton County, which also reported 41 new probable positives. Baraga County logged five new confirmed positives, Keweenaw County had three, Ontonagon County four, and Gogebic County eight. No new deaths were reported since the figures were last updated last Thursday. There were 78 confirmed recoveries across the region.

Since the pandemic began late last winter, 835 cases have been confirmed in the five-county region, with 576 of those in Houghton County alone. Additional probable cases swell the number across the region to 973. Seven of our neighbors have died.
