COVID-19 cases declined in our region last week.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported 42 confirmed cases in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties.
That compares to 54 the previous week. Cases dropped significantly in Houghton County, but bumped upward in Baraga and Ontonagon Counties.
Statewide numbers held basically steady, with an average of 1,323 cases confirmed each day. That was slightly less than the previous week. COVID-related deaths also held basically steady, with an average of 18 per day.
Health officials caution that actual case counts are probably higher. Positive home tests are frequently not reported, and mild cases may go undiagnosed. Even those with no symptoms can still spread the virus to others.
