Local COVID-19 Case Rate Holds Steady

The COVID-19 diagnosis rate in the Copper Country remained steady over the past week. Sixty-five new cases were confirmed to state officials in Houghton, Keweenaw, Ontonagon and Baraga Counties. That’s just two higher than in the previous week.

Statewide, numbers continue to edge downward after the latest surge peaked a month ago. Diagnoses dropped to an average of 1,852 per day over the past week, compared to 2,226 per day in the previous week.

The number of deaths from COVID-19 related causes remained steady, at an average of 15 per day.

The figures represent only cases reported to the state. Most positive at-home tests are not included. Many cases with minimal symptoms are not diagnosed at all, although the virus can be spread to others even if an infected person is asymptomatic.
