Lift Bridge Repairs Could Affect Boaters and Motorists

Expect more delays on the Houghton-Hancock Bridge from Wednesday evening into Friday morning.

The Michigan Department of Transportation will be making repairs. Most of the work will take place overnight, from 8:00 in the evening until 3:00 the following morning. The outside southbound lane is scheduled to be closed tonight, and the inside southbound lane tomorrow night. During those times, the span will be in the lower position, restricting boat traffic.

Other boating restrictions will also be in effect. From Wednesday through Friday, the bridge will only lift at the top of each hour between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. It will not lift at the bottom of the hour.

From 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the bridge will require a three-hour advance notice for openings.

Mariners should provide advance notice directly to the bridge operator by calling 906-482-7552.

The schedule is tentative and may be adjusted.
