It ended soon after it started.
Author Steve Lehto set out on a journey inspired by Douglass Houghton on Sunday.
Traveling in a canoe, Lehto hoped to make the 1,200 mile trek from Duluth, Minnesota to Detroit.
Excessive debris in Lake Superior in combination with poor weather proved to be to much and the trip had to be abandoned shortly after the canoe was struck and damaged by one of the obstacles in the water.
In a Facebook post describing the conditions, Lehto said in retrospect the trip could not have been done this year due to the effects of last month’s storm.
He said he will decide whether to make another attempt at a later date.
