Learn About Local History Through The Lens

The Keweenaw National Historical Park is looking for students entering 5th or 6th grade with an interest in history, being outside, or learning about photography.

The program called “My Neighborhood, My Heritage” consists of mini photo workshops that help youth learn about local history while practicing basic photography skills.

Youth and a park ranger will explore local communities throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula this summer, developing a greater understanding of the area’s history.

The workshops will occur on the following days from 9:30 to 11:30am:

South Range: July 10-11

Lake Linden: July 17-18

Houghton: July 24-25

Hancock: July 31-August 1

Calumet: August 7-8

The program is free to all participants and cameras are provided.

Advance registration is required and is limited to the first 15 youth that sign-up.

Those interested in attending must call 483-3042 or email: nick_clark@nps.gov.  In the event of severe weather, programs will be postponed until the next day.

Photos taken by the youth will be on display in September at the Calumet Visitor Center as part of the “My Neighborhood, My Heritage” photo exhibition. This event will be on September 7, 2018 at 6:00pm.
