The Portage Lake District Library will host the Copper Country League of Women Voters on Tuesday, March 20, at 6:30 p.m.
Dr. Martha Sloan will present a discussion of “Statehood for the People of D.C.” She will explain how the citizens of the District of Columbia pay more in federal taxes than do the citizens of twenty two states, yet they lack the representation and control of their locality that comes with being a state. Dr. Sloan will discuss the background of this situation and a path toward statehood for the District based on presentations prepared by the Washington D.C. League of Women Voters.
The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period.
All library events and programs are free and everyone is welcome. For more information please call the library at 482-4570.
