The village of Laurium has joined the Houghton County Recreation Authority.
The village council voted to join the effort Tuesday evening.
The authority is being formed to provide a unified voice for trails in the county, in order to get grants to help rebuild trails damaged by the Father’s Day Flood, and to fund additional maintenance and expansion.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the council also approved a 2 percent cost of living increase for village administrator Ed Vertin. The vote on that was supposed to have been taken in April, but it slipped through the cracks as the village began adjusting to remote meetings. The increase will be retroactive to April 13th.
