L’Anse Village Approves Budget – Village Council Wrap

The 2024-2025 budget for the Village of L’Anse is in place.

After no one spoke at last night’s public hearing, the council approved the spending plan. Millage rates will remain the same in the village.

L’Anse Fire Chief Cory Frisk recognized a grant received from the Koppers Company…

They were recognized for a Presidential Safety Award for their company, and because of that they’re able to donate some money to the community, and we were granted $2,500 by Koppers, so we appreciate that.

Two village projects could take steps forward this week.

Concrete is expected to be poured at the new site of the L’Anse Farmers Market, in front of Meadowbrook Arena. The project was delayed a bit because of a need to install additional drainage at the site. The market will be held each Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning through the summer. The council approved a $23,577.30 payout to the contractor for work already completed.

Village manager Bob LaFave also told councilors that permits are finally in place, and dredging of the channel to the marina will begin this week. An early-spring storm washed a considerable amount of sand into the channel.

Councilor LeAnn Davis acknowledged a successful Baraga County Lake Trout Festival last Saturday…

On behalf of the Lake Trout Festival committee, which is Anne and Steve Koski, Lyle Olson, Todd VanDyke, Cory Frisk, Barb McEwen and myself, I want to thank everyone for Saturday.

With good weather, the festival at L’Anse Waterfront Park was well-attended.
