L’Anse School District Finishes 2018-2019 with Surplus

The L’Anse Area School District finished the last school year with a thin budget surplus.

Superintendent Susan Tollfeson said confirmation of the $173,000 surplus came at Monday’s board of education meeting, as the district’s annual audit was successfully completed and approved.

Tollefson told us the board also approved the sale of two old school buses. Offers came in lower than the district had hoped, but they had been bid out twice, and the board saw no advantage to trying a third time. The old buses have been replaced with new ones.

The athletic department reported that Baraga will co-op with L’Anse for golf this spring, but will not join forces for softball or baseball.
