L’Anse Prepares for Christmas

Christmas preparations continue in L’Anse. At last night’s village council meeting, Public Works Director Scott Lloyd said that the village crew had begun installing holiday lights. Workers were expected to report early this morning, to hang the decorations at the intersection of Main and Broad Streets.

The council authorized the closing of several streets for the parade at the Light Up Baraga County event on December 20th. The parade will begin at 5:00. Floats and decorated big rigs are welcome – sign up at the Convention and Visitors Bureau office in L’Anse.

After the parade, Santa will visit with children at the L’Anse American Legion hall.

A detour will be posted to route traffic around the parade.

The L’Anse Downtown Development Authority is again setting up its Christmas Tree contest.

Trees have been delivered to businesses in town. The businesses will decorate the trees. Residents will vote for their favorite trees by dropping quarters in donation boxes inside the businesses.

All the money raised through the voting will go to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

There are also cash prizes for the three businesses that raise the most money. Those prizes, and the trees themselves, are provided by the DDA.
