L’Anse will be hosting a Christmas parade and celebration this year.
Last night, Leann Davis updated her fellow village council members on plans for the “Light Up Baraga County” event, which will be held on December 20th.
It will begin with a parade at 5:00. Davis said they’re already receiving inquiries about participating in the parade, which is open to community floats and decorated big rigs. Advance sign-up is encouraged, and can be completed at the Convention and Visitors Bureau office in L’Anse.
Santa will be featured in the parade. Afterward, he’ll visit the American Legion Hall. All are invited to enjoy food, face painting, ornaments and cookie decorating.
L’Anse made final payments on a couple of water projects at a brief village council meeting last night. One of them cost more than originally expected.
Village Manager Bob LaFave explained that they had hoped to replace the main under Secret Creek at Denomme Road by boring a path through. When they tried, rocks blocked their way, and the route for the new main had to be excavated.
The deep culvert that carries Denomme Road over Secret Creek is failing, and is scheduled to be replaced next summer. The water main had to be relocated in advance of the road construction.
The unexpected excavation added $16,000 to the cost.
