The Village of L’Anse is one stop closer to having a new home for its farm market.
Last night, the village council selected Wuebben Construction to build the new facility, which will be located at Meadowbrook Field. Wuebben’s bid came in at $97,245. A state grant will cover $75,000, and the village will make up the difference.
The L’Anse Farm Market has been located at Waterfront Park since it began more than a decade ago. Room under the pavilion there has been limited, and vendors are not able to access their spaces directly from their vehicles. Construction on the new facility could still take place this fall.
Council members also voted to let the State of Michigan take over building inspections in the village. No qualified person has expressed interest in becoming the building inspector. Several other municipalities are also relying on the state for inspections.
Village Manager Bob LaFave reminded residents that the annual Boo! On the Bay celebration takes place this Friday…
Boo! On the Bay will run from 4:00 until 6:00, with trick-or-treating, bouncy inflatables, cider, and horse-drawn wagon rides. The event will segue into a kid-friendly version of the Meadow Evil Haunted House from 6 until 8, followed by the full version until 11. The Haunted House will also be open Saturday, and each weekend through the month.
LaFave also noted that the Lake Superior Performance Rally will return to L’Anse Saturday morning, with a parc exposé at Waterfront Park from 7 until 9. A memorial event is planned to honor the memory of rally driver Al Dantes, Jr., who was killed in the Holiday Gas Station crash and fire just before last year’s race.
