L’Anse’s marina channel will be dredged sometime this summer, but not right away.
At last night’s council meeting, village manager Bob LaFave said a recent storm had swept a lot of sand into the channel. Permission is needed from the Army Corps of Engineers to remove the sand, and LaFave indicated that could take a few weeks.
Council members also celebrated a significant state grant that will help determine if the village has any lead water leads. The search for those leads has been underway for several years, in accordance with a state law. Few, if any, have been found so far.
The $288,000 grant will help speed up the process. LaFave indicated that no local matching funds are required.
