A L’Anse native is among Michigan’s newest conservation officers.
Michael Anderson was one of 12 new officers commissioned Friday in Lansing. He has been assigned to the Baraga office, and will begin probationary field training there next month.
Although most of their time is spent enforcing fish, game and natural resource protection laws, conservation officers are certified as law enforcement officers, with the power to make arrests.
They complete a rigorous 23-week program that includes classroom work and field training. The 12 who graduated were among 15 selected from a pool of nearly 400 applicants.
