L’Anse Designates ORV Trail Section

The Village of L’Anse has officially recognized a section of ORV trail that has been frequently used for some time.

The stretch runs along US-41, from east of the Hilltop Restaurant to the west edge of the village limits, with a spur down the old rail grade to the bridge across the Falls River, and downtown.

The newly-designated ORV trail is shown in red.

Adjacent property owners supported the move at a public hearing last week.

The designation will enable the route to be officially added to the Baraga County trail system. The Baraga County Trails Authority is working to have the expanded trails included in the Michigan DNR system.

At last night’s meeting, village council members also endorsed efforts to establish a L’Anse Community Development Corporation.

Village Manager Bob LaFave explained that the CDC would address a specific need in the community…

It’s specifically targeted towards housing, and it has resources that will be available that the state and federal government have, that right now there’s no organization in our area at all.

The Community Development Corporation project is being managed by the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region. It was similarly endorsed by the Baraga County Board of Commissioners two weeks ago.
