L’Anse Council Mulls Increased EDC Support

At a quiet L’Anse village council meeting last evening, Roy Kemppainen from the Baraga County Economic Development Corporation discussed that organization’s mission, and their joint projects with the Lake Superior Community Partnership to support local businesses…

They work from a mom-and-pop all the way to large corporations. They have a lot of knowledge, so if someone is looking, say, for a training program, I know there’s training programs going on right now for employees that they can apply for funding.

Kemppainen encouraged the village to increase its support of the EDC.

Village Manager Bob LaFave said investment in the EDC paid dividends when the village needed help to cover the cost of installing natural gas in the new industrial park…

$75,000 of that came from an MEDC grant we got working in partnership with the EDC on that.

The council will consider additional funding in next year’s budget.

Council members also encouraged residents to fill out the Recreation Survey being done by the village, L’Anse Township and Baraga County. Link to it here.
